Along with a system for preparing wood surfaces, Buckeye Painting And Decks Inc. has developed an effective method for preparing and painting wood sash windows so common on houses in this area. There are several steps to our process, but we feel that they are all essential to producing a quality product that will last longer than the normal paint job and also look much better.
Here is our window and prep system:
- Scrape all loose glazing from mullions (wood cross-sections)
- Razor blade all old paint from glass
- Scrape all failing paint from the window sash
- Wipe off mullions and vacuum entire window
- Replace all missing glazing with fresh glazing
- Prime all bare wood
- Caulk where necessary
- Paint entire window using the Highest Quality Sherwin-Williams Paint
When painting the glazing next to glass, it is important to cover all glazing to prevent it from rain and air. The paint will just barely be touching the glass and in a straight line. Avoiding this one minor detail is the cause of most premature paint failure in windows. It is not unusual to see glazing peeling away from the glass before any of the other paint on the window begins to peel. However, you may notice that on a window that has remained in good condition for years, there is a good seal between the glazing and the glass as a result of a quality paint job.
When painting the sash (the part of the window which moves up and down) we are careful not to jam paint in between the track and the sash. This causes the window to stick and become painted shut.
Buckeye Painting and Decks Inc. takes great pride in our workmanship, attention to detail and customer satisfaction. It has taken us years of experience to develop effective ways to solve your painting needs. We hope this explanation of our processes helps you to decide if Buckeye painting and Decks Inc. is the right contractor for you. We look forward to serving you in the future.
